Hand Examples From a Micromillions Event Win Using the PPH Premium MTT HUD

By August 19, 2015blog, Uncategorized

The Premium MTT HUD can be very useful when trying to find spots where to increase your stack in MTTs to give you a better chance of winning a tournament. In this blog post I will be showing some hands where the Premium PPH MTT HUD helped me decide on what action should I take and helped me me take down a Micromillions event.

In this first hand example, the tournament is in the middle stages and an aggressive opponent decides to open from MP1.

Hero (CO): t74114 M = 7.41
BTN: t43206 M = 4.32
SB: t132596 M = 13.26
BB: t55542 M = 5.55
UTG: t249622 M = 24.96
UTG+1: t124457 M = 12.45
MP1: t186531 M = 18.65
MP2: t112526 M = 11.25

Pre Flop: (t10000) Hero is CO with 6 of spades 6 of clubs
2 folds, MP1 raises to t8000, 1 fold, Hero raises to t73614 all in, 4 folds

Final Pot: t26000
Hero mucks 6 of spades 6 of clubs
Hero wins t26000

The reason why I decided to shove 18BB in this spot can be found if we open up the RFI popup for the villain.

Villain had already opened 12 out of 32 possible times when in middle position and has been raising first in 35%, meaning he is opening quite wide. Sometimes when we do get called we won´t be in a great spot, but we might get a flip and this late in a tournament we should be looking for every spot where we could add chips to our stack.

In this next hand I decided to flat 45o on the BB to an UTG minraise and a SB flat. I only need 14% equity for my call to be profitable, and even vs aces I will have that. Although most of the time I won´t be able to realize my equity and the call will be bad, another stat from the HUD popup made my decision easier (and the fact that SB was weak tight who only bet with good hands and folded everything else).

UTG+1: t964682 M = 32.16
MP1: t218491 M = 7.28
MP2: t367061 M = 12.24
CO: t275403 M = 9.18
BTN: t234876 M = 7.83
SB: t230854 M = 7.70
Hero (BB): t226490 M = 7.55
UTG: t175434 M = 5.85

Pre Flop: (t30000) Hero is BB with 4 of spades 5 of diamonds
UTG raises to t24000, 5 folds, SB calls t18000, Hero calls t12000

Flop: (t84000) 7 of spades A of clubs K of clubs (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, UTG checks

Turn: (t84000) 8 of diamonds (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets t32555, UTG folds, SB folds

Final Pot: t84000
Hero mucks 4 of spades 5 of diamonds
Hero wins t84000

The thing I noticed was that this villain had not CBet a single time and had folded to 100% of turn probe bets (4/4 times). The sample size was small at the time, but it did give a slight idea that he was playing very straightforward. Leading the turn for a small bet seemed like a good idea after I did decide to call and miss the flop and both villains were playing tight.

The next hand example took place at the final table when we were 4 handed. SB was very active, being 46 (VPIP) / 38 (PFR) and with a 3Bet of 19.4 over 181 hands. Having the CL and him being second in chips was a good spot to turn my A blocker into a small 4Bet bluff knowing villain would most likely fold(because of ICM). If he would jam I would still have 7,3M in chips after folding and still be in a good spot to take the tournament down.

CO: t1520653 M = 7.60
Hero (BTN): t8321967 M = 41.61
SB: t6091832 M = 30.46
BB: t3295548 M = 16.48

Pre Flop: (t200000) Hero is BTN with A of clubs 6 of spades
1 fold, Hero raises to t200000, SB raises to t500000, 1 fold, Hero raises to t1000000, 1 fold

Final Pot: t1150000
Hero mucks A of clubs 6 of spades
Hero wins t1150000

Another good feature of the PPH MTT HUD that helped me decide if I should 4Bet bluff is the VS Steal Badge. It shows how often villain folds vs a steal and how often he 3Bets vs a steal.

vs-Steal-BadgeAs we can see, villain had 3Bet vs a steal 11 out of 43 possible times, which means he is most likely getting out of line, so taking a small 4Bet bluff line in this spot could be very profitable.

These were just some of the hands that helped me take down this tournament. It is possible to try our Premium MTT HUD out for free. Use this opportunity and you will see a nice bump in your winrate.
